WHY WE EXIST

The purpose of PAY is to collaborate with organizations in Africa and globally, towards the common goal of preparing the current generation and future generations for effective leadership in Africa and the world.

THE HOW

To be accomplished by organizing, promoting, and engaging in activities that prepare and propel our Youth for ethical leadership worldwide.

  • An annual summit along with regional events throughout the year.
  • Seminars and workshops which may include but not limited to political engagement, governance, leadership, ethics, effects of colonization, and other issues of the day.
  • Encourage and foster participation in PAY events in Africa and globally; that is, from every country the sons and daughters of the diaspora call home.
  • Access to experts and mentors in the respective fields, and advisors on the relevant topics.
  • Planning and execution of programs and outcomes
  • Monitoring and evaluating for effectiveness of program implementation and outcomes. Fostering, creativity, entrepreneurship, innovation, and self-reliance.

    Paulinarh Bolatito Ogunleye - Pay Youth Ambassador

    Paulinarh, 21 years old, the first female President of the Faculty of Arts, University of Lagos Nigeria and the longest seating President, will speak on the Perspectives of Youth in Africa and the diaspora.

    Paulinarh is a proud Nigerian from Ekiti State whose greatest dream as a child was to be a leader and help others. At age 8, she joined the Young Generals Assembly, a nonprofit organization that trains children to be responsible citizens. She was further appointed the Social Prefect at her elementary school because of her passion for social change. She later became the Assistant Senior Prefect at her high school where she graduated as the Best Graduating Student. In 2019, Paulinarh was elected as the first female President of a Faculty, at the 59 year old University of Lagos, Nigeria. She is currently serving as the President of the Faculty of Arts Students’ Association, University of Lagos. Paulinarh loves to help others become better version of themselves through exemplary leadership and service. She is a talker and a storyteller. She believes that if the people who know better decide to stay silent, the opinions of those who do not know at all will continue to count. As she always says: “Embrace your story, trust your process”!

  • Prof. Seth N. Asumah (Ghana/U.S.A) - Political Mobilization For Success
    Prof. Seth N. Asumah (Ghana/U.S.A) - Political Mobilization For Success

    Prof. Asumah, State University of New York (SUNY) Distinguished Teaching Professor, Chair and Professor of Africana Studies, and Professor of Political Science at the State University of New York at Cortland will speak on effective mobilization for political success.

    Prof. Asumah, is the recipient of over 80 international, national, and local awards and honors, including the Best Faculty Advisor Award, SUNY Cortland-BSU, 2021; National Role Model Faculty Award for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (Minority INC. 2018); Student Government Association Outstanding Faculty Award (2016); State University of New York at Oneonta Distinguished Alumni Award (2016); the American Political Science Association Outstanding Teaching in Political Science Award (2008), New York African Studies Association (NYASA) Outstanding Service Award (2012) and many more.

  • Prof. Babacar Kante (Senegal) - Ethics & Power
    Prof. Babacar Kante (Senegal) - Ethics & Power

    Prof. Kante, President of the National Political Dialogue Commission in Senegal, former Vice-President of the Constitutional Council/Court of Senegal, and an expert in Constitutional law and political science, will speak on Ethics and Power.

    Pr. Kante has particular interests in youth leadership, ethics, governance, and development. Not only has he been the most influential and respected professional by young leaders in Senegal but he has also been the reference on ethical standards and public service.

  • Dr. Alexandria Williams (U.S.A.) - Ethics
    Dr. Alexandria Williams (U.S.A.) - Ethics

    Dr. Williams, an internal medicine physician at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California, will speak on Ethics.

    A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Alex completed both her undergraduate and medical degrees at Indiana University, where she realized her passion for lessening health disparities and improving care for marginalized communities. This inspired her to pursue public health education at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

    She completed her Masters in Public Health in 2016 and was fortunate enough to match for residency at Harvard Medical School – Mount Auburn Hospital. During her senior year of residency she was selected to be Chief Resident for the following year, during which she concurrently completed the Harvard Medical School Health Professional Education Fellowship. Once the pandemic is over, she looks forward to getting involved with some of the diversity and social initiative projects at Cedars-Sinai.

    Dr. Jasmine L. Blanks Jones (U.S.A.) - Youth Pan-Africanism

    Dr. Jones, a dynamic theatre nonprofit leader, award-winning educator, who holds a dual PhD in Education and Africana Studies from the University of Pennsylvania will speak on Pan-Africanism.

    Her research on theatrical performance as a civic engagement praxis illuminates global race-based inequities in education and health, lifting the potential of knowledge co-creation through the arts and digital cultural production. As founder of Burning Barriers Building Bridges Youth Theatre (B4YT), a cultural performance company dedicated to radical community empowerment through the arts, she has more than twenty years of experience in youth development in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America. Having developed a track record of leadership in arts and advocacy in communities of color globally, in 2018 Jasmine extended the scope of B4YT to include a consulting practice, Creating Brave Stages, which provides support and guidance for advocacy organizations looking to integrate the arts into their movements and artists aspiring to create positive change through their performances. She holds a MPP from the University of Minnesota and BS in Music Education from Florida A&M University. She is a postdoctoral fellow with the Program in Racism, Immigration, and Citizenship at Johns Hopkins University.

  • Darcy Bourne - Pay Ambassador For The Diaspora
    Darcy Bourne - Pay Ambassador For The Diaspora

    Darcy, a 20-year-old Sophomore with a joint major in Sociology and French at Duke University in North Carolina will speak on the Perspectives of Youth in Diaspora.

    Darcy is on a sports scholarship to Duke University, while home remains The United Kingdom. She was Duke’s top goal scorer in field Hockey in her freshman year and was awarded the ACC Freshman of the year as an All-American and an all ACC-academic member.

    She captained the U-16 and U-18 and has totaled over 50 junior international caps and as a senior has earned a spot on the Great Britain Elite Development Team. She represents the England U21and GB development (field) hockey team. Darcy is currently taking a semester off to train in England for the Junior World Hockey Cup taking place in South Africa this winter.
    Last summer a photo of Darcy attending a Black Lives Matter Protest in London went viral. The photo, in which she was holding a sign asking “why is ending racism a debate” was shared by celebrities all over the world, but most impressively, it was shared by Martin Luther King III. Darcy has since being using her platform as an activist and an athlete to educate and move others towards equality. She has appeared on numerous TV, radio, and podcast interviews.

    She is increasing her knowledge on the subject of sociology, politics, and history of racism as she continues to join various student groups. Darcy is most proud of her recently co-founded business called “Beyond Our Game”, which is aimed at empowering student-athletes of color through the community and career services network.

  • Dr. Agnes Ngoma Leslie (Zambia/U.S.A.) - Mobilization For Success
    Dr. Agnes Ngoma Leslie (Zambia/U.S.A.) - Mobilization For Success

    Dr. Leslie, a Master Lecturer and Outreach Director at the Center for African Studies at the University of Florida will speak on Mobilization for Success.

    Agnes is Zambian by birth, and she graduated from the University of Zambia. She has a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Florida. She teaches courses in African studies with a specialization in “African Politics” “Women and Politics” and “China and Africa Relations.” Dr. Leslie has been a recipient of several grants including a Fulbright Fellowship to Zambia. She has researched, written, and published extensively on Africa. Her publications include: Social Movements and Democracy in Africa: The Impact of Women’s Rights in Botswana, Encyclopedia of African History and Culture (senior editor). She has served as editor for the African Studies Quarterly special issue publications focusing on China and Africa’s relationship. She is also the editor of Teach Africa, a publication promoting the teaching of Africa. Dr. Leslie leads local, national, and international seminars on various aspects of Africa.

  • Prof. Ivelaw Lloyd Griffith (Guyana/U.S.A.) - Security & Leadership
    Prof. Ivelaw Lloyd Griffith (Guyana/U.S.A.) - Security & Leadership

    Prof. Griffith, Senior Associate with the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, DC, former Vice Chancellor of the University of Guyana, President of Fort Valley State University in Georgia, Provost of universities in Virginia and New York and Dean at Florida International University will speak on Security, Political Economy of Drugs, Crime, and its impact on the Sovereignty of a Nation.

    Prof. Griffith was a recipient of the Dr. William J. Perry Award for Excellence in Security and Defense Education, named in honor of former U.S. Defense Secretary Dr. William J. Perry. He testified before the U.S. Congress on Caribbean Security issues and was engaged by the Commonwealth Secretariat, Canada’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade and other agencies.

  • Hon. Allyson Maynard-Gibson QC (Bahamas) Ethics & Leadership
    Hon. Allyson Maynard-Gibson QC (Bahamas) Ethics & Leadership

    Hon. Maynard-Gibson QC, the first female to take Silk in The Bahamas, an advocate for people centered justice, diversity and the rights of women and children and an expert in governance, restructuring and rebranding of organizations will speak on Ethics and Leadership.

    During both of her stints as Attorney-General and Minister of Legal Affairs of the Commonwealth of The Bahamas, great strides were made in access to justice, especially through the use of technology, focus on people, data based decision making and simplification of systems to enable people’s access to justice.

    Allyson led the Bahamas’ team that enabled the Baha Mar resort to emerge from Chapter 11 and to successfully open, with stakeholders made whole, and the new Owners investing over US$100 Million to reopen the resort.

    In 2018, Allyson served as a member of the first ever People’s Tribunal on Economic Crime in South Africa. Also, recognizing that the voice of Small Island Developing States should be heard in fora affecting and shaping the “new world”, she actively engaged in the processes leading to The Bahamas’ election to the Board of the International Telecommunications Union. She was a member of the Task Force that produced, in 2019, the “Justice for All” Report. In 2020, as a member of the Task Force, she Co Authored Three Briefings on COVID-19 and its fallout: (1)Justice for All and the Public Health Emergency, (2) Justice for All and the Economic Crisis, and (3) Justice for All and the Social Contract in Peril.

  • Dr. Francesca Fajinmi - Chief Organiser / Moderator
    Dr. Francesca Fajinmi - Chief Organiser / Moderator

    Dr. Francesca Fajinmi is a business practitioner and corporate executive with over three decades of experience in corporate. Her academic qualifications culminated in a doctoral degree in Business from Walden University, where she specialized in International Business.

    She started the work on Black Matters as the host of Reimagining Black Relations podcast, where she engages leaders in business and social or spiritual settings to explore solutions to the issues faced by Blacks. Her podcast is downloaded across all continents. In 2020, she convened a global conference themed “Black Esteem” – the first Black Affair hosted by Your Black Matters.

    Dr. Fajinmi resides in Los Angeles with her husband, three children, son-in-law, and grandson “My Love”. Francesca loves to travel and is passionate about youth and zealous for mission work.

Dr. Sharpton, founder and President of the National Action Network (NAN), a not-for-profit civil rights organization formed in 1991 with over 100 chapters nationwide, including a Washington, DC Bureau and regional offices across the US, is our Keynote Speaker. As one of the nation’s most-renowned civil rights leaders, Rev. Al Sharpton has been praised by President Barack Obama as “the voice of the voiceless and a champion for the downtrodden”. Rev. Al Sharpton also hosts a daily radio show “Keepin’ it Real w/ Rev. Al Sharpton”, a national cable news television show titled “Politics Nation” and he is an established author.
